Leyla Sefket (American, b. 2003) is a visual artist whose work explores themes of identity, place, and the psychological landscape of American suburbia. Working primarily in painting, Sefket blends surrealism, humor, and personal memory to examine the quiet tensions between regulation and rebellion, comfort and alienation. Whether depicting homes frozen in time or figures merged with road signs and suburban symbols, her work highlights the strange familiarity of everyday environments and the emotional weight they carry.
Originally from Long Island, New York, Sefket is a recent BFA Fine Arts graduate from Ringling College of Art and Design, with a minor in Graphic Design. Her work has been exhibited in numerous group shows across Florida and New York, and she has held roles in both gallery and museum settings, including at the Sarasota Art Museum and Crossley Gallery. She is currently based in New York, where she continues to develop work rooted in memory, place, and the absurd logic of the familiar.
